Behind the Lens: How I take a photo…
Thank you for following along with me on this journey of sharing my artwork and the message behind it. I want to share the inner workings of how I do what I do, why I do what I do, and for whom my artwork is for. I hope through this process of sharing you will better understand how impactful and powerful art can be in general and particularly why I consider my art a gift to my community. Each image is a work of love.
So let’s start with a question for y’all! —What’s your process for making art?
I recently sat down and created a diagram explaining what it feels like and what I do when I plant to take photos. Below is an pictorial of this process. I’ve also shared a little introspective piece to give context.
HOW I TAKE PHOTOS:
When I take photos I am capturing the beauty that makes me thankful to be living in that moment in time. It does not always need to be in a “fancy” place but it is always in a space that is meaningful to me, so the location can range from natural landscapes to cityscapes. I lead with curiosity when I select a location and I document views that instinctively bring me joy and spark a sense of intrigue about my surroundings. Without fail, when I’m in the process of taking photos I am humbled, thankful, and spiritually calmed to be a witness to the grand and, at times, idiosyncratic beauty in the environment I choose to explore. The moment that I capture with my camera lens, and that I patiently take in with all my senses, is my unique perspective of the world around me which is an important reminder of my presence and my value to this earth.
